I am Brian Culmo and I am a Senior Graphic Design Student at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. I grew up in Hebron, Connecticut, a small town 20 minutes east of Hartford. After focusing a lot on art in High School, I shifted my focus to graphic design once arriving at Champlain.

When I'm not working on design work, I find time to do a variety of activities and adventures. I run almost every day. I am the captain of Champlain College's Cross Country running club, which competes in races all over the Northeast. I also run races of all distances and disciplines including everything from 5km road races to trail ultra-marathon. I am the Co-president of the Champlain Student chapter of the AIGA, and I look forward to helping create great events with the club to better connect graphic design students with each other and the professional design community in Burlington.

I studied abroad at the Auckland University of Technology, in Auckland, New Zealand for the spring 2014 semester. The opportunity to explore a new part of the world, and to see new perspectives on things really changed the way I think as a designer and outdoor enthusiast.

To balance my time spent on the computer, I try to spend as much of my free time as possible outside enjoying nature. I bike to school or work everyday, regardless of the weather. I hike a lot; everything from small day hikes to long distance backpacking adventures. In the summer of 2012 I thru-hiked the Long Trail spanning the distance of Vermont from Massachusetts to Canada covering 273 miles along the way.

In the winter I spend my free time snowboarding, as I have for over 12 years. Most weekends in the winter I find myself at Sugarbush in Vermont. I am always up for a new adventure and am constantly finding new ways to enjoy the outdoors. I recently have found myself getting into winter hiking, mountaineering, bike touring, and rock climbing, and who knows what my next outdoor pursuit will be. All I know is that whatever I do next is going to be an adventure, and that's the way I like it!
