They just scan it. They glance at it the same way they glance at advertisements. Don't believe me? Just think about this for a second. Think about how you're browsing this section. You check out the photo (if there is one), look for the company names and if you've heard of it, see what clients the persons worked with, and toss it in the trash by the days end. I'm guessing that's happened more than once.

Same way with websites. Nowadays the question is: What can you do to make your website stand out in the clutter of the internet?

This is what I do. Almost 10 years ago I started a role of translating digital landscape into a medium of communication, expression, and entertainment. Currently I play a senior role at TeamDetroit in Michigan with an award winning team that's recently caused their clients to be Marketer of the Year (Adage, 2010).
