I'm a contemporary spanish painter and I have a Fine Arts Degree from the University of Barcelona where I majored in Painting, but I've been painting since I was in my teens.
"Albert Guasch’s painting stands somewhere between the absurd, the fantastic, the ritual and the drama.
It is a realistic figuration that connects with the pictorial tradition but nevertheless comes into confrontation with the enigmatic of the images: the significances are usually misty and the narratives are open.
The paintings –based on photographs that the author has previously taken or, in other cases, inspired by the beginnings of the photography or by the science fiction cinema- seek an apparent solemnity that, nonetheless, is broken by the dramatic approach to life and by the ambiguous images.
Absent-minded and semiconscious characters, holes and cracks in the walls, still life paintings with plastic objects, white superficies that remind surgical tables, levitations and pieces of meat that are offered like a sort of an unknown ritual… They are some elements that converge in disconcerting atmospheres and constitute a recognizable and, at the same time, strange world.
Each image is a simulation, a piece of shell of reality, a transition point to a broader story to which we don’t have access. Therefore, each image will “look” outside of itself in search of its own trail, its own shadow: its survivor image.
It is all about our fragile, equivocal, ambiguous and vulnerable nature. It is all about the human being and its inherent limitations." Read Less
