Artist Statement
I am very intrigued by the effect of ‘text’. I use it in a way of distortion. I play with the manipulation of words. To me the ‘visual’ plays a big role hence my work is about the image, more than the real text itself. My work gives an enigmatic feeling when viewed. It is only an illusion of text; it is a kind of ‘mark making’.It is a synthesis of my personal feelings and thoughts and a self-reflection, which is difficult to portray in words.
My research and writings in my sketchbook helps me expand my ideas. The use of text in my work has interested me for the reason that it has a lot of intimacy with my subject. I like to incorporate ‘text’ that has now become a prominent feature in my works. Personal handwritings, printed text as well as stylized forms of text is shown through out my studies.
Mediums I am most comfortable with are Watercolours, Chinese ink and Charcoal. The common thing between all three mediums is that they flow easily and show the delicacy in my work. My colour palette usually consists of the black white and grey. These colours fascinate me and also I think I work best with those shades. At times I also use digital medium in work. Tape, is a new medium I have discovered and working on which had fascinated me and I am trying to involve it in my work.
Simplicity is a primary aspect in my work.
The responses I receive from various people gives an interesting twist to my work, and it takes its own course from there on. There is a constant change seen in my work, as the big picture always changes. I do keep the aesthetic sense of my work in mind. I mainly do a series of compositions, and usually work on them simultaneously. I feel like my ideas are brought up better through a series rather than just one painting or drawing.
