About
Yan Nascimbene spent his childhood in France and Italy. After working as a fashion photographer at SNIP in Paris, he studied at the School of Visual Arts, NY and at the University of California at Davis.
In 1980 Nascimbene wrote and directed THE MEDITERRANEAN, a fiction film selected at festivals in Gent, Turin, San Sebastiàn, Park City, Chicago, Melbourne, New Delhi and Montréal. He was subsequently commissioned by the French CNC to write the screenplay to a second film, BELLE-ILE.
In 1986, Yan started working as an illustrator in France. He has illustrated over 300 book covers and 60 full books, some of which he authored. Notable books include Marcel Proust's DU CÔTÉ DE CHEZ SWANN (SWANN'S WAY), ANTIBES (Bologna Graphic Award)) and Italo Calvino's AVENTURES (DIFFICULT LOVES. Society of Illustrators' Silver Medal), PALOMAR (Society of Illustrators' Gold Medal) and LE BARON PERCHÉ (THE BARON IN THE TREES).
His illustrations have appeared in Time, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, the New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, etc. Clients include Air France, Japan Airlines, Apple, Macy's, Barnes & Noble.
Yan recently wrote and illustrated a series of short stories and is currently working on his first GRAPHIC NOVEL. Pubishers are welcome to inquire!
A 3 time winner of The Bologna Graphic Award, he is the recipient of 2 silver and one gold medals from the Society of Illustators, NY.
Yan and Joan share their life between the South of France and California.
