This form of performance art first emerged in ancient Greece and Italy. From Paris to London to North America, burlesque entered its silver age at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, becoming a popular entertainment in the Western World –

During Hollywood’s Golden Age of the 1940s to the 1960s: April March, Bettie Page, Dixie Evans, Gypsy Rose Lee, Lili St. Cyr, Sally Rand and Tempest Storm renewed this traditional art form. We all know the folies Bergères and Moulin Rouge in Paris (which use to be a whore house)
Lili St Cyr was a headliner here for almost 8 years at the Gaiety Theatre (Theatre du Nouveau monde)

Montreal Was booming with clubs and Cabaret partly because of the prohibition in the US, everyone was coming to Montreal to have fun.
It all went down hill when a combination of the Moral squad closing all the clubs, cleaning the city of Mafia and the coming out of home entertainment.

Today, all over the world, through lively and colorful performances, the playful art of seduction has become more tempting than ever. This latest revival is led by a new generation of talented artists, the creation of Burlesque festivals in every cities, books and live performance.

Burlesque or my view of burlesque is in the respect of the traditional style, classic, glamorous. I like to empower women, give them the right to be seductive again, own their sensuality, body and sexuality. Re-establishing the art of seduction in a world where everything goes so fast that one barely knows another’s last name and is already in bed with him or her, or where a click of a finger reveals all the secrets of love in less than a minute without any efforts.

Burlesque today is the revival of the traditional burlesque performance. Though based on the traditional Burlesque art, the new form encompasses a wider range of performance styles; Burlesque acts can be anything from classic striptease to modern dance to theatrical mini-dramas to comedic mayhem. As with the earlier feeling, Burlesque is more focused on the "tease" in "striptease" than the "strip".
It is an art, the art of seduction. It is the art of peeling of of one’s clothes or costumes in a skillful manner, elegantly and bring the public in a journey in which the destination does not matter but the journey itself. Humor is sometime involved, acting, interaction and many different styles exist now.
New Burlesque tends to put the emphasis on style and tend to be sexy rather than sexual, often involving humor. Burlesque gals all have tremendous costumes and props.
Performers will often strip down to pasties and g-strings but will not go all the way (at least not on my stage) Read Less
