My approach as a fine artist is to draw on the power of mass media and pop culture, while repurposing its icons, imagery and techniques to deliver a more personal artistic statement. Through the use of meaningful juxtaposition and social commentary, my work is an exploration of the irony, contradiction, parallels and harmony to be found in 21st-century life.

I do not create from 9 to 5. I dedicate my entire life to the creative process. Read Less

Art is like magic: if you already know the trick, it doesn’t cause the same effect. Art is believing and throwing yourself into the experience, like a child playing. Even though I take my artistic work very seriously, I still have a lot of fun while I’m creating.

Why do things need to “make sense”? And which sense is that? I find everyday objects posses a special beauty, that becomes visible once they have lost their intended purpose, once they have no reason to be. Beauty lies in the mystery of what needs to be unveiled over and over; love is mysterious; and the secret of life is, in fact, a mystery.

When I give birth to my works, I want them to grow to inspire others, and I want them to talk about life: the complexity of humanity; the connections within ourselves, between each other, and to the Earth. By means of their rare beauty and humor, my characters would want to stir our thoughts, provoke us feelings, evoke memories or create fantasies. They’ll try to make you wonder about all these mysteries, to see what’s below the surface and who’s behind the mask.

I’m not concern about how to define or classify my work; a medium is just a tool, not a purpose itself. I use many kinds of mediums because like the human body and all manifestations of nature, diversity is our strength, is what gives our species beauty, and what allows for full expression of the living experience.

Artistic creation is a mysterious force that grows chaotically beyond existing boundaries and outside known parameters, and it’s for that reason that I hope I never stop re-emerging and being re-created by the characters and metaphors that live through me. Read Less
