Nokia 3G Booklet

Project: Nokia - Booklet 3G
Manufacturer: Nokia - Finland
Production Company: ManvsMachine - United Kingdom
Director: Mike & Tim - ManvsMachine
Background: To coincide with the Nokia Booklet 3G launch, Nokia commissioned London based ManvsMachine to concept, design and create 5 animations, for online, instore and events. Radium were commissioned to write the music score and sound design.

How we did it: We scored the music and then passed these to the sound designers to work their magic on. We crafted all the music to flow with the animations and sign off at the end. The music score is featured as the lead part in the films. The sound design within the Battery film however, has more prominence in order to work on the timeline within the animation.

Sounds we created include: Music score, piano textures, atmos track, Foley, human elements, Nokia sign off, swooshes, movement detail, clock, beat track, alarm sonic treatment.

Weareseventeen - Desktop Wars

Project: Desktop Wars Pt 1 - Weareseventeen - United Kingdom
Agency: Weareseventeen - United Kingdom
Production Company: Weareseventeen - United Kingdom
Director: Weareseventeen - United Kingdom

Background: Weareseventeen write: Desktop Wars is a series of self-initiated shorts featuring two battling robot alien life-forms. The 3D animated characters were tracked and composited into the HD footage and Radium Audio provided us with a brilliantly crafted piece of sound. The first one is ready to view now, watch this space for more.

How we did it: We created the music score to be bubbly, fun and energized in a tim burton-esque feel, it works alongside the action so that every hit, bump and whizz is musically on cue. The sound design is just plain lush, it's projects like this that require trips to toy stores to collect & record anything that moves, buzzes, switches etc.
The whooshes are all musical from the bassy swoosh layers right up to the zipping zinging passbys... it's all fun.

Sounds we created include: Music, Physics SFX, Whizzes, Swooshes, Pass-bys, alien chatter, character - personalities, particles, impacts, servo, super nice sfx, flute textures, alien baby talk, theramin, Moog bleeps, arp bloops, and anything else we could thrown in that made it sound fun.

Virgin Media - Ted Kids

Project: Virgin Media - Ted Kids
Client: Virgin Media - Agency Rapier
Production Company: ManvsMachine - United Kingdom
Director: Mike & Tim - ManvsMachine

Background: TV & Radio advert by design agency ManvsMachine for Ad Agency Rapier - Virgin Media

How we did it: The audio on this advert for broadcast & radio needed to be an additional vehicle for the narrated message which is Virgin broadband services. Our role was to articulate the story using sound, adding depth, backstory and non-visual acoustic cues, [children playing, TV,]. The sound design is a mixture of foley and musical audio design, we often use real world sounds that we have recorded from scratch and process them into sound fx that are organic yet motion graphic friendly.

The swooshes are industrial fans over different materials [gauzes, cut cardboard slots, vents, we record these and then eq, reverb, change pitch to create rich swooshes [No pitched up Jets here from sound libraries at Radium!]

The pop on the Ted graphic is a mixture of wallpaper paste, fairy liquid in a bucket being blown through tube, with a techno bass kick layered in for added presence.

Sounds we created include: sound design textures, movement sounds, original swooshes, clicks, pops, counting clock, vortex textures, children watching tv, vintage tv switch, cathode ray tube buzz, chords supporting the product swooshes

EA Games - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Project: EA Games - Harry Potter
Developer: EA Games
Production Company: Collective
Director: Collective

Background: Game trailers require in-game capturing and then re-sound designed because the audio track becomes too fragmented and unlistenable. This type of genre is about Harry Potter world, magic, spells, textures, imaginary worlds and events.

How we did it: Our task is to create the audio track as if we where creating a normal film trailer. We do this by layering the location atmosphere tracks first, then start to add the events, such as magical spell sounds, roll overs, scrolls, hidden easter egg sounds, potions and bubbling cauldrons.

Sounds we created include: Bubbling cauldron, scrolls, roll overs, background ambience, spell room ambiences, deep rumbling room tone, potion sfx, fizzing potions, bottle sfx, Sonics for logos.
