Growing up around reggae sound-systems / bands and then the culture of hip hop from the late 70's thru the 80's, produced both a dancer, poet and graffiti writer, as the original hip hop elements encouraged self-expression in many forms.

Fully involved in word sound power image and movement. A break came when Edwin Starr (Motown) asked him to produce some illustrations and paint his stage set.

This lead on to painting shop & club interiors for other businesses with ‘Scorn’ from ‘The Altered Cultured Crew’. Then making handmade flyers or painting backdrops for inclusive music events. The positive feedback propelled him further on the course of image making.

After studying art, illustration and then a degree in graphic design, Ninety settled in London and worked for design company 'The Unknown', producing record sleeves and promotional material for various Dance, Acidjazz, Reggae, Dub, HipHop, Techno and Drum&Bass labels/bands in the UK music industry from the 90's onwards.

At the same time writing his style of poetry and recording vocals for the Groove Corporation (G.CORP). Painting regularly and being involved with collaborative art projects... for example: creating ten 8ft characters to stand over the crowd gathering at a party to celebrate the release of hip hop producer Prince Paul's lp 'Prince of Thieves' ...Amongst many other adventures.

Starting his own studio ONEDRINPEN in the mid naughties gave him a chance to art direct and design magazines, collaborate to create animations and use many different skills to produce a series of 5 books for Lomography (an analogue photography company & movement from Austria).

The early passion for Graffiti, the freedom and the message has never faded and Ninety continues to explore his own take on it. ‘we must learn, explore, evolve ideas and communicate empowering messages’... Read Less
