Ten years of designing public spaces. Offices, theatres, airports, schools…
Ten years of working in the field of tension between the grand, extrovert
gesture of architecture and the intimacy of interior spaces, where
individuals are supposed to find their way around.
What is it exactly we do as interior architects? What drives us, what are our
goals? These are essential questions, and worthy of giving plenty of thought
to every now and then. Ten years of thinking, sensing, talking, procrastinating, cutting knots and hard graft has not only produced some beautiful interiors, but has also provided a gradually clearer answer to the above questions.

A perspective on our profession, as producers we are continuously switching between detail and overview, between intimacy and grandness; between the individual character of the individual user and the anonymity of a public space; between the view from the ground and the view from a helicopter. These two aspects of the spaces that we design: the personal and the public.

M+R interior architecture is a international design office founded by Hans Maréchal. Our fields of activity often involve complex assignments such as converting and designing offices, restaurants, hotels and shops. Among our design skills and core activities for building and exhibition architecture we are also involved with revitalising existing buildings and monuments in particular. The architects from M+R determine the form and content of each design assignment on the basis of the programme of requirements.
Creativity, functionality, sustainability and ergonomics are translated in a well thought-out manner into a unique final product with an identity of its own. The starting-point is usually a conceptual approach to the design task, for which a total plan is developed, with a sharp eye for details.
The power of a strong design is vision, innovation and the quality of realisation.
