Illegal Art, started in the summer of 2001, is a collaborative of artists whose goal is to create interactive public art to inspire self-reflection, thought and human connection. Each piece is then presented or distributed in a method in which participation is simple and encouraged. But our main goal is to have fun in an open and creative forum that includes the people and the world in which with live.
Illegal Art has exhibited in Milan, London, Barcelona, San Francisco and New York. We have collaborated with CREATIVETIME, Deitch Projects and Colectivo De La Calle in Barcelona. We have also presented our work at the annual conference of the National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation in San Francisco and the College Arts Association national conference. IA have been featured artists at Visual Dialogues, A Ford Foundation sponsored exhibition at Clark University, in Worcester, Massachusetts, and we have been asked to speak and present our work at numerous college campuses throughout the United States.
In 2005 “Suggestion Box”, a compilation of suggestions we collected throughout the five boroughs of New York, was published by Chronicle Books. Read Less
