Megumi Watanabe (渡辺恵美, 1975-) was born and raised in Shizuoka prefecture, Japan. She began showing her creative talent at an early age, and decided to join the art club at her junior high, where she won a poster design contest, and had her painting exhibited in a local museum.
In 1993, after graduating from high school, Megumi moved to New York City and attended schools. In 1999 she graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology with an Associate Degree in Graphic/Advertising Design.
For following few years, she built her portfolio designing CD /cassette /Record covers, Logos, Brochures, Business Cards and Flyers for friends. In 2001, she was hired as a Graphic Designer at a streetwear brand Triple 5 Soul, and started her 9-year-long career as an Apparel Graphic Designer in fashion industry designing T-shirts, Patterns /Textiles, Trims, Packaging, and Skateboards. Her experience, expertise, keen sense of color, design style, ability to cater, and work ethics has earned her numerous projects with many clients including special projects such as TRASHED for Fashionpeace, A Novel Art Project for Dazed & Confused, Skatedeck Art Show at Avenue A Sushi. In 2009, she won a Kashiwa Sato Award in Uniqlo Grand Prix T-shirt design contest.
Megumi's work show influences by various periods of art history of different cultures and nature, with her signature delicate, organic lines. She mainly works with pencil, water color, acrylics, pen and digital, and experiments with printmaking such as lithography, etching and woodcut. Read Less
