My greatest obsession in life, besides drawing, is the study of Japanese culture and art. My own illustrations are heavily influenced by the art and design of ancient and contemporary Japanese artists, ranging from the old sumi-e ink and ukiyo-e masters such as Hokusai, Toyo Sesshu and Kano Eitoku to modern artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Yoko Furusho and Takashi Murakami, to name a few. My studies have been further facilitated by a semester of studying abroad and Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata-shi, Osaka.
I also draw much inspiration from the varying styles of Art Nouveau and it’s successors Art Deco and Psychedelic Art, which is not at all surprising given that Art Nouveau artists themselves were fascinated and influenced by Japanese culture and art. Read Less
