Marcela Manso was born in Aveiro, in July of 1980.

Is graduated in Sculpture by the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (University of Lisbon’s Fine Arts Faculty), is a member of the Centro de Investigação e Estudos da Volte-Face - Contemporary Medal since 2005.

From November of 2007 to May of 2008 has done the Leonardo Da Vinci Program in Stuttgart, Germany, working as an intern in the Werkstatthaus (Stuttgarter Jugendhaus E.V.), developing an artistic project and learning different artistic techniques, working in the ceramics, metal, animation films, etching and sewing workshops and participating in activities that occurred in the house with adults, children and youngsters.

In 2007 worked as an assistant of the plastic artists Robert Melee and Olaf Breuning in the realization of big and small scale plaster sculptures, during the stay of this artists in Lisbon, and assistant of the painter Mª Teresa Pais in the moulding and finishings of the medal celebrating the 50 years of Grupo Coral of Torres Novas.

In 2006 participated in the conception, realization and assembly of the urban installation Álvaros & Chairs, group project with the sculptors Andreia Pereira, Catarina Alves, Maria Ana Simões, Ricardo Manso and Teresa Ponte, oriented by the sculptor João Duarte, for the Lisbon’s VII Annual Academical Theatre Festival (FATAL 2006).

In 2004 participated in the exchange Program Sócrates/Erasmus in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology (FAVU BUT), Czech Republic and in the 1st Sculpture Symposium in Vila Real de Santo António “Escultura à Beira do Guadiana”.

Exhibits since 2003 in national and international exhibitions of sculpture, medals and drawings, namely in Lisbon, Philadelphia, New York, Colorado Springs, California, Saint Petersburg, Rio de Janeiro, Stuttgart, Auckland, Brno, Angra do Heroísmo, Oeiras, Sintra, Moura, Alhos Vedros, Aljustrel, Sobral de Monte Agraço, Vendas Novas, Rio de Mouro, Seixal, among other places.

Her work is represented in Vila Real de Santo António, Portugal, with public sculpture, in the Saint Petersburg State Artistic Industrial Academy, Russia, in the drawing archive of the University of Lisbon’s Fine Arts Faculty, in the library of the University of Lisbon’s Fine Arts Faculty and in private collections in Brazil, Germany, Portugal, France and the UK.


Prizes and Awards:
2005: Honourable Mention for the group project with the sculptress Teresa Ponte, National Contest of Sculpture Arts - Business & Hotel Centre, Lisbon, Portugal.
2003: Honourable Mention of sculpture, “Prémio Salúquia às Artes - A Arte nas Terras Raianas”, Moura, Portugal
