Marc Laberge
Montreal, Quebec, CanadaRecently I began incorporating fire into my work, burning wood panels and using the marks that are made to start the process. The burned zones are sometimes visible at the end, but are always a beginning. From one painting to another, things seem to be related as part of a global story in which each painting can represent a chapter. I approach every painting in a very intuitive way and the result is never known until the end. I use a variety of mediums, and generally I allow black and white to predominate, supported by silver-grey and some bright colors but always leaving spaces intact to allow the color and texture of wood to be part of the work. My subjects are more suggested than defined. Everything seems to be somewhere between reality and dream, between life and death, an imaginary space in transition.
