Working as a freelance photographer and writer was ideal as I started a family and raised two boys. I worked on editorial assignments as well as commercial work. The commercial work I was best known for was black and while portraits, hand printed on beautiful Agfa fiber paper.
Writing assignments varied from small business profiles done for the Wichita Business Journal to indepth features done for local and regional magazines.

Shooting for a city-wide magazine, both the editorial well as well as for advertisers was a great first job. Although I turned down the magazine's first offer, telling them I was going to work at National Geographic, I'm glad I reconsidered and called them back!

After four years in the School of Fine Arts, studying Art History and creating a strong studio arts portfolio in drawing, printmaking and ceramics, I dedicated a fifth year of college journalism. I took enrolled in every journalism class I could cram into my schedule, with an emphasis in photo journalism, and I was selected to be the art director of Parnassus, the WSU yearbook. That fifth year proved crucial to my career path as I have worked in communications my entire life.
