I am a Norwegian freelance illustrator who now lives and works in the Boston area.
Over the years, I have taken several courses and classes in drawing, painting, ceramics and block print. I studied with Italian artist Vittoriano Delgado in Copenhagen in the late 1980s, and while in Copenhagen, I also drew mini comics about the city's alternative nightlife.
During the 1990s I secured my degrees in philosophy and English, but still managed to develop my creative side. As a member of my Norwegian hometown's local informal artist collective, I participated in weekly critique groups and several annual exhibits. In 2000, I moved to the U.S. I worked for Cornell University as a program assistant, a position that demanded artistic and creative skills. I created posters and advertisements, as well as visual displays on a variety of topics. I also developed skills in design software.
In 2003, I moved to Brookline where I later became a proud member of the cartoonist collective Boston Comics Roundtable, and joined the Graphic Artist Guild. As part of the Boston Comics Roundtable, I have published comics in anthologies and zines, created posters and other artwork, and have collaborated with writers on longer projects. My work as a freelance illustrator includes creating illustrations for local law firms, logo design for the Etiquette Academy of New England, and making icons for a board game, commissioned by The Boston Globe. I also draw illustrations for Spare Change Newspaper in Boston, and recently illustrated a children's book, Magnus and Jenner, by Brookline-based writer, Kim Girard. I have exhibited my work in several group exhibits in the the Greater Boston area.
I find inspiration from a variety of sources. Life in a busy and vibrant city contributes to my creative energy. I also revel in the city's community of cartoonists and artists. I am inspired by street art, counter culture and fashion trends (though I rarely follow them), people with character, and things with a past. I listen to a variety of music and devour magazines and publications such as Hi Fructose and Juxtapoz, the Boston freebies, and the zines and mini comics that circulate in the independent comics scene.
