News & Views From The Studio

Life and work changes very quickly in the studio.
Based in the Highlands of Scotland, enjoying the
peace and tranquility, whilst still keeping my finger
on the pulse.

A weeks work can change from:

Television advert storyboard's.
Client pitch illustrations
Seeing a client in Scotland about a new oil
painting commission of Red Grouse as my other
artistic life is as a Scottish wildlife artist ( web link
to wildlife art website click here.
Cutting wood to keep the fire in through the winter.
An illustration commission for a book, magazine
or whisky label.
Illustrating on a photography shoot for an
advertising client in London or Melbourne.
Spending the day on the hills and rivers of
Scotland photographing and sketching for
reference material.
Hanging my next exhibition.

What ever it is it will be embraced with the same
passion.

After all, that's what makes life interesting.!
ARTIST STUDIO
I have my home and studio in an 1870's Highland farmhouse that is located in a quiet glen in the Highlands of Scotland. This is
ideally placed for some of Scotland's top sporting estates. However with in yards of the studio I have some the best wildlife
Scotland can offer. Each day I try to get out for at least half an hour to walk around the land. The burn below the studio has otters,
woodcock and trout, the fields are well stocked with pheasant and partridge and the hills around the house plenty of Red deer,
Roe deer and three grouse (maybe in even the fourth and largest species in the local woodland) I keep an eye open to see if the
Capercaillie have returned.

We are also lucky to have number of interesting species of birds of prey with the Osprey visiting each year to nest and the little
Merlin hunting over the game cover and we can't forget the most common Highland birds of prey the Buzzard.

Last year we built a new dry stone wall / dyke in front of the house from stone reclaimed from the land around the house. It was
built for our benefit to keep some of the drifting snow from mounding to close to the house. However, the pheasant and
partridge love the height and extra warmth it gives. Now that was worth dragging all the stones out of the fields for.
