Background Anatomy
I draw, paint, sculpt, and photograph the world around me. In college, I focused heavily on Anatomy and related topics (applied, clinical, etc.). My fascination with anatomical structures and body art allows me to play with lofty subjects in my work, such as functional anatomy and the healing process. Through much of my photography I have borrowed classical illustrative techniques from favorite Anatomy books (Gray’s, Netter’s, and Thieme) to create engaging, albeit playful snapshots of exposure concerning these graphic depictions.
Exposure: Skin Deep
Exposure’s ephemeral nature is captivating and worthy of artistic exploration. The more I grow as an artist (and fall into traps of non-activity) I learn to respect action. As the exposed, there is little remaining to actually hide and thus we are forced into a state of acceptance or denial. Through body-art I mostly utilize temporary media (Mehron wax pencils) in order to easily explore this transitional state as the pencil marks fade or are simply washed away.

Most would find these images disturbing as the bodies I have drawn upon are pictured in everyday activities, rather than following proper aseptic techniques...
