Joerg Metzner is a photographer and graphic designer, born in Osterode, Germany.
After living in Ireland for a year he emigrated to Los Angeles in 1989 where he attended Santa Monica College of Design, Art and Architecture. The interdisciplinary nature of the curriculum at SMCDAA became the foundation for his professional life as a photographer and a graphic designer.
He graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1994 with a BFA in Photography and Visual Communications.
While working as a graphic designer Metzner has concurrently created a series of ongoing photographic projects.
“Unmoved” and “The Road Not Taken,” two of his most recent projects have been published as books in 2009 and 2010 consecutively. A selection of work from the “Unmoved” series was exhibited in 2011 at J. Andrews Salon in Chicago. In 2012 a collection from the same series was included in a curated exhibtion online at photographyserved.com.
Metzner served on the Board of Directors for the American Institute of Graphic Arts Chicago from 2002 - 2003 and now serves as Vice President at the Society Vice President at the Society of Typographic Arts Chicago.
He has won several Design Awards from HOW and Graphic Design USA, among others. His work has been included in the 2007 Graphis Design Annual and has been featured in the RotoVision “The In-House Design Hand Book” by Cathy Fishel. Read Less
