Within Product Design I have picked up several great influences in my design ethics and aesthetics, and I owe a great deal of thanks to my teachers at College for my Design influences. I have a great deal of love for the Bauhaus design movement, this modernist movement inspired many of today’s designers and it was such a great inspiration when first designing. I love the simplicity and modernist styles from which the Bauhaus designers all worked towards. I think a personal design icon has got to be Dieter Rams.
Dieter Rams is a designer from Germany who changed the whole make-up of Braun electronics to a more functional product design process, his work is most know for his ‘ten principles of design.‘ Someone which I have been massively influenced in my education of design who was also heavily influenced by Dieter Rams, is Jonathan Ive. His work for Apple has turned there fortunes around massively, would the iPod and iMac have been what they are today without the industrial design knowledge and styles of Jonathan Ive? Read Less
