combining 3 smaller apartments into one at one of new york city's most coveted uptown addresses, we delivered a stunning new dwelling on the 61st floor of the metropolitan tower. every single room is constructed so that the postcard view of central park is the star. with a built-in wraparound sofa, a secret door in the solid walnut library and distributed surround sound all over the home, this project is an ode to the 80s during which the building was erected.
suited for a family of 4 with 2 children, the communal living spaces stands in between the master suite and the kids' rooms, hidden behind the aforementioned trap door in the library, thereby providing a buffer of sight and sound.
i might describe the final result as having a monastery + cowboy ranch + 80s vibe...
the kitchen and dining area is the only one wrapped in waxed concrete thereby giving it a theatrical feel, especially when seen from the rest of the apartment which is clad in bleached pine and subdued colors.

Appreciate that you have used that much of time to write me a reply. ;p I was thinking that possibility too, but the pictures did not really tell that, and the commentary above did not tell that fact either. Nevertheless television's position is awkward, even when it's turned to right side. Size of the television should also be bigger, if we take a look at sofa's size. But if the family does not watch TV that much, then I understand why it's awkward. By the way, you can see comfortability from the pictures too. I am sorry, if my comment made you to feel a little bad, but after all this is a really nice home. Sometimes designers just select weird and uncomfortable shaped objects over the usability on this modern world.

well, antii, what you don't see is that the tv actually swivels all the way to face the large built-in couch. that way, half a dozen people can comfortably lounge while watching the flat screen. i couldn't call myself a designer if i had really set up a television this way, now could i... i just wanted to be able put it away when not in use since this family does not watch tv a lot. as far as being "modern," "cool" and "fashion," you must understand that ALL of my firm's choices are based in usability, first and foremost. the photographs you see might seem glossy to you but in fact, these days, all of those terms you mention are easy to achieve by mere buying of items that reflect certain trends. that is not what we do. we tend to look at behavior rather than taste, habits rather than furniture runways, lifestyles rather than aesthetics. in fact, i believe that choosing beautiful things is boringly easy, especially these days when examples are many between the pages of wallpaper and the ikea catalog. at the beginning, our process is more akin to that of a detective agency, following its clients as closely as possible to see how they act, what they eat, where they fuck, who they meet and then make assumptions as to the layouts that might best suit them. pretty things come later, much later actually, at the very end. when functionality has been sorted. while i appreciate your comment, remember that pictures are only that, pictures, flat and rather dead, that they scarcely represent how life goes on within the pictured walls. moreover, even if you were to step into the space, i would again caution against hasty judgment as people do live differently, have different sets of priorities. in the 25 or so interiors i have had the chance of executing in the past 10 years, no two client ever had the same brief or expectation, no two client ever thought of his or her waking hours identically, no two client ever felt pushed to live according to overwrought concepts of "modernity," coolness" or "fashion." home design, to me, is not in the least about "design," it is about life and the personal choices made to live it. i am sorry that these pictures obviously fell short of showing you that.

Wow, very impressive views :D Love NYC.. and nice idea to combine 3 smaller apartments, its superb now! But one thing about the interior design, you try to be so modern and fashion blah blah that you have totally forgotten the usability. What the fuck with the position of living room's TV and some of the furnitures?! Do you watch TV on floor or some uncomfortable looking object, which is pretending to be a chair? So, if you make a modern house, you should focus on modern interior design too. Don't try to be "cool" and furnish one of the coolest and modern houses in the world into 80s. Sometimes I just don't get designers, but obviously everyone makes their own dreams.
