The ecBook website was designed to promote the ecBook online catalogue system, it´s uhhm quite technical. I based this design on the ecSoftware corporate website for branding purposes but also to speed up development time.
ecBook is a very different approach to viewing and displaying pdf´s online. It´s more organic and has a different feel to it, it´s not nearly as technical, more like viewing a real brochure. Allthough it´s still on a computer screen with a mouse.
To capture some of this organic stuff in the design I wanted hand drawn elements to make up most of the graphic elements. There are some squigly bits here and there but the main thing is the headline font and icons.
Patra Tawatpol is very deer friend and an incredibly accomplished illustrator and she drew these amazing icons by hand. We then scanned them in and I did some post proccessing on the scans.
The headline font is Lucida Handwriting displayed with Sifr. For the paragraphs and other text I chose Trebuchet, a nice soft, rounded feminin font to my brain.

Front page design
I tried loads of combinations to place the brochure or ecBook in a capturing way and finally settled on this one. The "pocket" thing is to make it stick out and look a bit more natural, again try to make it more organic without going overboard on graphic elements.
Under the main banner area there is a small illustration of a tree, rainbow, tree line and some people no one will ever see. I like to put in unexplained elements, just to make people, the ones that notice them curious.
Front page design - Rollover state of banner
This screenshot shows how the main front page banner looks like if the user mouses over it. The idea here is to push the interactive nature and organic feel of ecBook right from the start on the front page. As you can see on the above screenshot the brochure lies in a "pocket" and it should slide out of that to a horizontal position where the user can flip through the brochure and get the feel of ecBook.
References page design
The top brochures in the screeshot will rotate around in a nice carousel effect while getting blurrier and fade out a bit to mimick a depth of field effect. All done to make it more organic and 3d.

Here the icons that Pat drew really come into their own, man they are nice :)
