c.1 Snowboard Binding Concept

This concept is based on the traditional “Strap-In” binding, but with a strong focus on three dimensions:

Production
The binding is modular, which reduces the number of parts required to produce a complete binding set. It also reduces the production cost, as the store or end user assembles the binding. This will give a lower transportation cost, since the binding will be shipped in flat packages. The modularity gives the producer the ability to make several different bindings (size, style, price, performance) based on the same main parts. And if the binding is broken, it is only necessary to change the affected part. All of this is differentiates from existing bindings, which are normally molded in one part.
All materials used are recyclable.

Driving performance
The binding is developed to give increased stability while driving, and a more even distributed force between the binding and the boot.

Personal adjustment
The binding modularity gives the opportunity to adjust the binding to fit both boot and driving style. It is also quicker to adjust while driving, both torsion/angle of the back and toe support angle.

Hi Jose, thanx for the comment. You are definitely right about the strength, I worked a lot with this aspect when detailing the base plate and connecting points for the aluminum. I performed a FEM analysis of this part of the binding (base plate and aluminum) in CATIA, testing with 4000N (for torsion, impact and so on), and it actually came out very well. Still, i would love to test it physically, all i got right now is a painted RP model and that's not something I would strap on my feet;)

I really like how using modular parts changes the whole picture, cause there will be less parts, less costs, less waste, etc, etc, wich in the end makes the product sustainable in a certain way. That is very cool.
The only thing is that maybe making a product modular could make it less resistant to whatever force snowboarding applies on the producto, could be?
