Light leaks, vingetting, blur, perspective distortion. The Holga camera has earned a cult following for its celebration of the side effects deemed by others as bad photography.
The following images are showcased in praise of my Holga camera and its cheap plastic lens. It has allowed me to embrace the element of chance and welcome mistakes and mishaps. My Holga lives in my handbag; I take him to the beach, he comes out drinking, he gets dropped, he gets wet, he sometimes pops open and splits in two. I’m not a very good owner but he’s a loyal friend and a great artistic
collaborator.
These images were exhibited in full sequence at China Heights Gallery in May 2009.
