Works On Paper
As we all know, abstract art is considered to be the style of choice by the world’s leading artist. This is of course not only because of the endless range of possibilities in composition, but also because of the depth of emotion and expression it can communicate. However, this particular style of expression has rarely been explored within the practice of drawing, and for the most part, has only been utilized as a means of preparatory procedure. Quite a missed opportunity if you ask me…
So I decided to take on this genre and compose works of art
that had never been previously manifested. But before I could begin, I
realized, in order to create something completely new, something wholly
original, I had to first create a process and technique that was equally as
inventive in order to communicate both a style and expression that such an
undertaking demanded.
After careful experimentation, I developed a means by which,
any scratch, stroke, or splatter, in fact any mark made in the history of art,
could be replicated using only pencil/graphite. This has since allowed me to
practice a technique that takes on both drawing and painterly form; a result
which not only allows the viewer to experience “drawing” in an entirely new
way, but also blurs the line between the act of painting and the art of
drawing.
