Fields:  Drawing, Fine Arts
After careful consideration, I have decided to take my drawing practice into an entirely new, and unknown path. It has always seemed to me that drawing has always been regarded as a substandard form of fine art. Yet, without this instant and honest form of communication, the world and history of art as we know it, simply would not exist.

As we all know, abstract art is considered to be the style of choice by the world’s leading artist. This is of course not only because of the endless range of possibilities in composition, but also because of the depth of emotion and expression it can communicate. However, this particular style of expression has rarely been explored within the practice of drawing, and for the most part, has only been utilized as a means of preparatory procedure. Quite a missed opportunity if you ask me…

So I decided to take on this genre and compose works of art that had never been previously manifested. But before I could begin, I realized, in order to create something completely new, something wholly original, I had to first create a process and technique that was equally as inventive in order to communicate both a style and expression that such an undertaking demanded.

After careful experimentation, I developed a means by which, any scratch, stroke, or splatter, in fact any mark made in the history of art, could be replicated using only pencil/graphite. This has since allowed me to practice a technique that takes on both drawing and painterly form; a result which not only allows the viewer to experience “drawing” in an entirely new way, but also blurs the line between the act of painting and the art of drawing.

In the end, it is not only my intention to elevate the appreciation of drawing within the art world to that of painting, but also, necessitate a means for discussion in regards to contemporary drawing and just where it stands today.

Much more work to come...

I completely agree with your view on drawing! I wish more people would think along the same lines! I really love this series, the tone and color you achieved is beautiful - it is amazing that these are made with graphite :)

Your project is a success. You gave a nice breath to the abstract art with your choices of the forms, the tones, the break between one line to the other. I think that you can continue it explore your idea a bit more. I'm curious of the effect that your drawing can do if it was make on a very large surface, like 48x96 inches of more, a bit like Claude Tousignant paintings. Continue, you're on a great way !
