"Vexels," in the most widely perceived meaning of the term, are rather high-intensity vector graphics, consisting of hundreds and thousands of vector layers, but that also permit certain raster elements, such as stroked paths. They, however, do not permit painting or brushing techniques, and everything must be made with paths or shapes.

Many are created by reproducing a photograph or existing image, by vectoring overtop of it -- and this is precisely what the below vexels are about. Most of these are old, old works from the time I was a more active member on the vexelling community -- where vexels are made to practice, showcase, and compete in vectoring skills, for often no reason but that -- but hopefully they'll still be interesting to look at! Most took me between 40-80 hours each and the particularly detailed ones average 500-800 layers (as one might imagine I don't do these much anymore because of time limitations, and I uploaded these here mostly for posterity -- but I fondly remember times when these were all the rage in my life. :) Enjoy!

  • Vector illustration of the Kingdom Hearts hero, made as a commission for chemicalstar of deviantArt on May 28, 2006.
The background is a raster stock image, however, and the hair was created with the stroke-path method rather than explicit vector shapes.
  • Miranda Kerr.
  • Japanese pop singer Ayumi Hamasaki. This one is all vector, even the hair (except for background, which is a stock photograph.)
  • One black vector layer. No reference. Headache. ;c
  • I got a bunch more lying around somewhere, but these are pretty representative of the kinds of stuff I made during that time. Thanks for looking! If you're feeling particularly inspired, come say hello at http://sklobovskaya.com/blog!
