Mountain Emergency Response Station

The project location is located near the intersection of the 2 Freeway and Big Pines Highway.  Due to the common natural disaster in the area, a proposal for The Mountain Emergency Response Station was established.  Being elevated at 6,900 feet above sea level and in the intersection of two major roads, the location offers quality supervision and access to the surrounding landscapes.

By analyzing the concept of wind’s fluidity, ease of transitional movements into, around, and through a space, it resulted in a proposal that incorporated those characteristics in the design.  The proposal changes the layout of typical rectilinear fire stations into a continuous flowing scheme.  By freeing up the floor plan, controlling circulation paths, and converting stairs into ramp transitions for each main floor, it allows the emergency rangers to rapidly reach their purposed destination in faster time.  Positioning common and similar programs next to each other eliminates the use of walls thus allowing sunlight and air to circulate continuously.  This also allows for each space to have an open interaction in a sense of visual and verbal communication with each other.
