“TopUp” Head Protection for Walker-cyclist | 2008
Design: Caroline Journaux & Adrien Guerin (studients At Ensci - Paris )
Client: "DoYouVélo?"

Concept:

When one observes the cyclists downtown, one realizes that very often, they do not carry any protection.
Indeed, the helmets of bicycle do not answer fully waitings of these townsmen.  They are cumbersome,
of sporting pace. It however appears important to carry a protection of head.
The encountered problem
today, is that the sedentary stake is not enough to convince the general public of
to carry a helmet during displacements to bicycle.  The project suggested aims at bringing the user to this protecting
by the concept of comfort. I.e., to answer this problem of obstruction, the risks of the seasons and with
an urban esthetic.
In opposition to the rigid helmet, the project questions the slackness and the universe of the textile. But how to ensure
the protection of cranium using a flexible material? The honeycomb structure is the ideal solution to reconcile
protection and comfort.

It has to use to help the pedestrian who does not have a helmet has his provision and which wishes to borrow a bicycle downtown (ex: Vélib' in Paris) TopUp is thus not a helmet, but a transportable head protection for protecting from the small falls of the daily.
Because it is always better to have a small protection than anything!
