Imagine being able to pick up any piece of paper and being able to use it as a fully functional touch screen computer. We have developed a screen that will instantly warp the image so no matter what angle you are holding the display it still show a flat image that is proportionally correct.
We (Daniel, Theo, Alexander, Christoffer, and Veronica) have created the palette. The palette is an augmented reality symbol which you can attach to any piece of paper. We use the augmented reality symbol to track the proportions of the paper. With that information we can warp a video so it will display proportionally correct on a skewed paper. This technique is called warp homography. We have developed this technique to be as easy to understand as possible so that we can give our source code away and allow others to develop. We are planning on giving out our source code after the exhibition on our blog www.theodesign.se/21.
To fully understand our product you need to see where it can be used. Imagine you are going to a big conference. In the welcome package you will get information about the conference, speakers, maps and other things related to the event. Then imagine the back of the booklet being a white page. Then you will also find our product, the palette. When you arrive to the conference this white page together with the palette will be working as a screen. All of a sudden you can navigate between maps and programs right on the paper. If the crowed is big and you can't see the speaker you can tune into the real-time web cam to view the speaker on the palette. This technique will also be useful at concerts and sport events.
This project was made for Experience Technology at Hyper Island. The total timeline for this project was 1 month including the development, making the informational video and all the marketing.
