The Redwood Transect Blog:
A joint project of the National Geographic Society and the Wildlife Conservation Society
Working with National Geographic and Mike Fay ( best known for his African Megatransect) I created the Redwood Transect Blog using the EarthWatchr™ geo-blogging tool I originally built for the Gombe Chimpanzee Blog. Mike is using the blog to document his transect of the redwood range for National Geographic Magazine. Mike Describes the project:

Working with National Geographic and Mike Fay ( best known for his African Megatransect) I created the Redwood Transect Blog using the EarthWatchr™ geo-blogging tool I originally built for the Gombe Chimpanzee Blog. Mike is using the blog to document his transect of the redwood range for National Geographic Magazine. Mike Describes the project:
"The objective of the Redwood Transect is to walk the range of the redwood tree, from south to north. We will walk the entire way, well over 1000 miles by the time we reach the last redwood in Oregon. We don’t ride in cars, we don’t leave the trail, and we sleep outside every night. Every step of the way we make observations on trees, their size, and density, wildlife, human activities, streams. We record a GPS track of our voyage so all observations are geo-referenced. At every opportunity, we talk to people about redwood trees, their stories, and what they think about the 21st century and the future of resource management. We talk to timber companies big and small, loggers, mill workers, conservationists, farmers, ranchers, park employees, foresters, homesteaders and you - whatever you do in the redwoods. Your participation along our path will enrich our experience and teach us things we don't know. Access is key, the more forest we can see the more complete a result we obtain.EarthWatchr™geo-blogging software provides a fully customizable, content managed tool that allows for users to interactively build complex geo-located blog posts entirely from within a browser, using an integrated WYSIWYG and simple image editing tools. The new tool provides bloggers the ability to "embed" complex Google Earth overlays to blog postings, which gives bloggers a powerful way to visualize complex environmental information about their location or travels to site visitors.
