In 2007, I badly wanted to be a part of Portland's "PDX Pop Now!" festival; a music festival for all kinds of music made locally in Portland, OR. I wasn't a really big name in Portland, and no one really knew who I was or what I did- which is a plus in this case.
So needless, to say, the following months were a bit intense, what with me creating music videos to play with 3 of my tracks, figuring out how to pull this off live, practicing with the visuals and trying to figure out what else was missing from this performance. It turned out bubbles and a smoke machine were the last bits aside from the video.
In a series of events, I came to know St. Caedmon of the performance group, Play Dead. Caedmon had once been involved with Sissyboy, which is a drag review that goes way beyond traditional drag. I was hesitant to meet with him since I knew he was going to be a bit over-the-top (and he was), but as we talked more and more about working together on the music video, we both decided that it could work. Sean & I also got some friends to jump in on the music video shoot, too.
For the music video shoot, Sean & I also thought it would be fun to have people dressed up or in characters for the video. We had graduates, a fisherman, a nurse in scrubs, one drag queen, one disco diva, a goth girl, a biker, a saucy club girl and a cowgirl. And I was supposed to be a sleaze-ball businessman. I got the sleaze down, but it could have been a bit more gross.
Here are some shots of the music video shoot. I'll be sure to include some notes with each pic to give a sense of what's happening. And sorry in advance for the quality of the pictures. It's the best I have to work with.
Sean & I knew that we wanted people to receive a package for their "something" to keep them "rock'n tonight." Sean had a great idea of painting old cigarette boxes and pasting some images of them. We had about 10 boxes for the shoot and we brought them to the festival to sell. I'm pretty sure we said that they were worth $150 each or something ridiculous like that.

Sean giving Alisa a heads up for what's goin' on. Alisa actually worked at this convenience store while we filmed this, as in, she was still clocked in. Yeah! I'm in the background looking like the sleazy businessman.

Kind of a gross picture, but I'm about to put the CD in her mouth. The idea behind the CD was that I was reprogramming her to give everyone the Gejius drug boxes so everyone would go nuts.

Yes, Alisa really did have a mini CD in her mouth.

Sean had a really nice bit of inspiration and used the fan behind the counter and blew it in people's faces when they were "touched" by the power of the Slip'n'Slide.

Yuk. I don't look this bad all the time. Just sleazy for the video.

Sean telling Nico of Play Dead what's up. I think Nico was supposed to be an Italo Disco Superstar. Not entirely sure on that, so don't quote me.

Here's Brian the cabbie. I hadn't met him before the shoot, and apparently he knows Sean and the girls who work at the store, so they asked him if we could use his cab for ambience. We ended up having Danielle dance on it. Thanks Brian!!!

This dance sequence was pretty fun to do. We had a boombox blasting the Slip'n'Slide track as all 10 (or so) of us danced to the beat. RadiumZ got a variety of angles, and so did the passerbys and onlookers. The best was when the church kitty-corner to us had their newly weds walking out of the church to their limo, and they just stopped and looked at us.

And please believe me that I've tried changing the quality, size and even audio for posting the music video straight onto Behance, but it just won't fit at 50MB, so I have to be slightly lame and use the YouTube version. Apologies, apologies.
