Save the Parrots
Save the Parrots
Billy is a parrot that saved many other parrots of Cayman. The story started when Billy escaped from a zoo in Miami and hid in a cruise ship that was heading for Cuba. While he was on the ship he was so bored and so sea sick that when they passed Cayman he flew right off.
When he was close to the beach, he saw a huge sting ray jumping out of the clear sparkling sea. He was most amazed at how many fish you could see through the water.
At the beach, he saw many other birds. He also saw parrots and men with nets trying to catch them. He was shocked and flew towards the men and pecked them. The men ran away crying.
Later, Billy flew towards the scared parrots that were in a tree. When Billy went to them they cheered as though he had saved their lives (in fact he did). They told him in bird language, ´They are trying to put us in cages and keep us.´ ´Well, maybe I can help,´ said Billy, ´but first I must find somewhere I can live.´ ´You can live with us,´ said one of the parrots. They all flew to their homes and Billy ate, washed in the wet leaves and went to sleep.
´Good morning,´ Billy shouted, as the bright sun sparkled in his eyes. He found out all the birds were outside, so he went out and helped them with their food.
That afternoon, Billy told the parrots to come innside because he was going to tell them his plan. He said, ´we are going to build a huge parrot, and then I´ll tell you the rest.´ So after many days they were finished. They were so tired they could barely fly. Billy told them his plan. The birds called every other bird in Cayman. They just managed to lift the huge parrot. The parrot catching men attracted by the many parrots came around the corner. The men were shocked when a voice came from the huge parrot, ´Stop catching parrots or I will make all the parrots as big as I am. Now go away and tell everyone what I have said.´
The men ran around shouting the news to everyone. Since then, no person has tried to catch a parrot.
