From: David Garcia's Portfolio
This project came into creation as a response to the ongoing issue of immigrants in the United States. The sign was created to warn drivers of immigrants crossing the highway on their way to mexico to the US. in areas close to the US-Mexico border, especially in the San Diego area. since then it has become an icon that signals immigration and all the political issues surrounding it.
The sign depicts a family running to cross the border in their pursuit of a better life or the so called "american dream" , more than anything else it illustrates a moment where they are putting their life at risk running towards a goal, a dream which they hope to achieve once they've gone through this ordeal.
My intention was to take this symbol out of context and place it in familiar circumstances, where it would not normally be seen, and by doing so giving it a complete different meaning and sending a message to whoever came in contact with it or saw it while on the street. By not adding anything else to the silhouette the message is completely dependent on the viewers preconceptions about the issue which i thought would be interesting. The silhouette was also on display at a local art gallery against a projection to fit the context of the gallery a little bit better and to allow me to show more images without having to print and frame any pictures.

Both pictures of the actual road sign, were not taking by me, i found them on the internet and im using them only as reference, and to put the project in context for those who do not know it, credits go to their respective authors who are unknown to me
