Showing off our video and motion graphics skills, we had a lot of fun creating the branding properties, teaser and introduction video for the tenth installment of digital video festival Resfest.
RESfest was a series of digital film festivals that ran for ten years between 1996 and 2006. It featured some of the most progressive directors of today, such as Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze and Chris Cunningham. In its final year, the festival had grown so big that it spanned over 50 countries on 6 continents, and needed video intros and branding properties to reflect its global presence.
Though many onlookers regarded RESfest as being the most trendy and cutting-edge film festival around, the truth was that most of its creative participants were just digital movie nerds. So with tongue firmly in cheek, we created a “monster” for each continent that would be shown in the scary, monster-movie-like trailer ad for the festival, only to be disclosed as being like all the rest: geeks playing around with digital movie creation in their basement.
RESfest 10 ended the series with a bang. We like to think that we contributed to that by creating a trailer that was both thrilling and exhilarating, as well as an fun intro movie for the different screenings that showed our motion graphics prowess by casting an orca/emperor penguin in the role of digital movie geek.
