Razor Thinline Semi Solid Electric Guitar

The idea for this model of guitar came from the Thinline Telecasters of the 70's, especially the deluxe. Another influence was Gibson's ES-335. In style these guitars are more like a Fender, but in build they're more like a Gibson. These guitars are essentially made like an acoustic guitar, but with a large wood centre block running down the middle. They feature solid wood tops and backs, with bent solid wood ribs. In this case, a Maple centre block, with an AA Yew bookmatched top, and AA Birdseye Maple back and sides. The neck is Maple and the fingerboard and binding are Indian Rosewood.

All of the timbers used in the instrument are quarter sawn for strength.

I decided to put the sapwood of the Yew in the centre so that i could mix Yew and Maple veneer together to create a pleasing contrast between the white and the orange. I used the veneer for all the purfling.

The pickups for this guitar are made by GFS, and they are vintage voiced, but with more contemporary output levels. A Humbucker at the bridge and a P90 at the neck. The controls are much like a standard Fender Telecaster, a three way switch, master volume and master tone.

The guitar also features through body stringing, for better tone and sustain, as well as white pearl fret markers.
