Gambel's Quail
Gambel's Quail are delightful. They form families, with both parents and up to two or three dozen offspring. It is common to see them running together in early morning, or evening. They have a wonderful soft call. This is the male.

I've Got a Secret - Baby Prairie Dogs

Torch Cactus

Let There Be Light - Antelope Canyon
This is the most famous of the slot canyons of northern Arizona. It is located near Page, on Dineh land, and is a Dineh tribal park. These intense rays are rather unusual, and I was very lucky to be able to photograph them. The sun only enters the canyon directly during certain times of the year and times of day. In order to get rays like this, there must be sand or dust in the air. On this particular day, it was very windy, so the rays were quite brilliant.

Vermilion Cliffs
These vivid rock formations and cliffs are found in northwestern Arizona and southwestern Utah.

The Three Patriarchs - Zion National Park
Zion is actually located in Utah. The weather the day I was there was miserable, but lent itself to unusual photo opportunities.

Sunset with Ocotillo
This photo was taken from my yard. During rainy seasons, the sunsets can be spectacular. Ocotillo is a succulent that looks like dead sticks except when it has recently rained. The bark is used herbally for female troubles. I like to make a delicate punch by harvesting the flowers, filling a gallon jar with them, and then with water, and placing it in the refrigerator for 16 hours.

Agave
The Agave is a succulent with a very acrid juice. The hearts of the plant are used by the Seri Indians to make tequila. It requires a complex distillation process.

Collared Lizard
This fellow posed for us, while I took a couple of rolls of film. He was sitting on a rock in the Wupatki Ruins area.

Waterhole Canyon
