I wanted to do a self promotional piece that expressed the sheer visceral and existential thrill I find in making images.(and mountain biking risky technical bits)When I fired an RPG I had the anticipation and the slight tremble knowing it was going to make a big bang with a lot of dust and smoke. Its a heavy solid object to hold. More than anything its the same kind of childhood thrill at seeing fireworks going off and smelling the gunpowder and smoke.
It produces a powerful concussion when it is fired and you have a blast of hot propellant that blows your hair around as the rocket leaves the launcher. It all happens very quickly. Its an enveloping experience. I become equally immersed in my art.
I have never fired a weapon at anything alive, I prefer paper targets. A sheet of blank drawing paper becomes a target. No persons were harmed during the making of this image!
This is the first stage of the image...and it took a few turns along the way!

This was the colour version that appeared, but I felt the colour detracted from the image...making it too "sweet" and lacking honesty of pen and ink which I love...(like the amazing etchings of Rembrandt)

This is the final version...a slight sepia tone to warm it a bit.
