For the PDX Pop Now! 2007 festival, I had told them that I had this amazing show cooked up, complete with visuals and a new music video that would be premiered at the festival. To my slight dismay, they said okay. Dismay because I really hadn't prepared any of these things, so I had a lot of work to do.
Sean Christensen took on the world-premiere music video for Slip'n'Slide (I created a mini-documentary which is in my main portfolio), which left me to create the background visuals. The only video editing I had really ever done was with Final Cut Pro in High School on a G4. I was now editing using Windows Movie Maker with a Dell Latitude notebook with 512MB of ram and a 1.8 Ghz processor. So yeah, editing was a bit slow, but it got done.
For Makkuro Kurosuke, I chose to use snippits from "My Neighbor Totoro", since that's where the samples were from. I didn't want to just edit raw footage because that could get old fast, especially since I was limited with my editing program, so I decided to film the movie playing on my TV set, cathode ray tube and all. It turned out nice and dirty, and I got some interesting angles from the TV and some really pretty rainbows, too.
For Nihongo 2.0, I wanted to match the swagger of the song with retro visuals, but didn't really have any at my disposal. Then I remembered some crazy movie I watched a lot in college called, "Pirhana, Pirhana," which is a horribly edited B movie that created many memories, while losing some watching it...
For Experiments in Time with William (Remick), I wanted to match the funk of the track and have something really basic and colorful. Then I remembered how in HS I would always mess with creating video feedback by plugging the camera into a TV and then pointing the camera at the television. It created simple, tripped-out effects that were fun to edit and manipulate with some color swirls.
These videos and others are posted up on YouTube in their entireity.

And Jerod, actually I would really like to be a part of the Forward Music Festival in Madison, but I need to gather my strength before the final blow is delivered.
*Not sure how that applies, but it's just a super quote from "Big Trouble in Little China."
Paz y Pesos,
Gejius
You put on an amazing performance!
