During the 5 years I worked at ISL, the biggest project I got to work on was OneWeb CMS, ISL's in-house content management system. OneWeb's current incarnation is just the latest in a progression of homemade systems built to meet needs ISL felt were not being met by systems that were already available. Forerunners to OneWeb (creatively named CMS 1.0 and 2.0!) were designed and implemented by me, the sole developer at the time, in ASP and quickly received encouraging feedback from clients.

OneWeb, as it's known now, is the result of a concentrated effort by ISL to build a powerful and user-friendly CMS. Learning from the previous CMS' success and failures, OneWeb was rebuilt from the ground up using .NET, adding a slew of new features in response to client feedback and current trends on the Web. More details after the first screenshot.

OneWeb values, above any other functionality, its fidelity to the public view of the website. This means that even when an administrator is logged on they're still browsing the "public" website, with the addition of an administrative console which highlghts the editable content on any given page. Even when editing content, administrators are doing so within the page -- in situ -- with a WYSIWYG editor. This allows administrators to understand immediately how the changes they make are reflected on their website.

Other features include sitemap, search and search engine optimization, multilingual sites and content, unlimited micro-sites underneath the main website, media/asset management, editing workflow, built-in applications, development framework for custom applications, user account and rights management, and members-only extranet support.

ISL added more developers to the team to work exclusively on OneWeb. As the sole developer of ISL's previous CMSs, I was intimately aware of the pitfalls typical of content management. I had a role in drafting the functional requirements and technical specifications for most of the project. I was also able to participate in much of the user interaction design, tackling some significant user interface challenges.

SInce I specialize in Javascript, I worked primarily as the client-side developer to address needs like form validation, administrative menus, WYSIWYG editor integration, and the management of editable content areas.
