When I was first getting started, before I had any commissions I built up a portfolio with images inspired by the movies I love. I thought I'd collate a few personal and professional examples of them here for you, both old and new. And naturally if there are any movie-related publications out there, I'd love to hear from you.

Ramboy: Son of Rambow is the latest movie project by Hammer & Tongs (Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith), following Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The film is all about two boys who, after seeing a pirate copy of Rambo back in the 80s, embark on their own movie-making adventure. I was invited to contribute this illustration for the launch of the website gallery, which was created by London web design specialists Preloaded in collaboration with Hammer and Tongs before the movie production began . Apparently this was one of Garth Jennings' favourite contributions to the project, which was lovely to hear.

Shaun of the Dead: Not long after I had created this illustration, I had the good fortune to interview director Edgar Wright for the popular design and arts news site, pixelsurgeon.com. It was a once in a lifetime chance, so afterwards I forwarded the image to his agent just to say thanks, and you know, 'if Edgar can spare a minute I thought he might like to see this' kinda thing. I never really expected to hear back, but Edgar contacted me personally as he loved the piece so much. He now has a canvas in his London office, and thanks to his support my illustration also made it into the official comic adaptation of the movie by IDW Publishing.

Lost in Translation: Just as in Sofia Coppola's marvelous movie, I think I'll let Mr. Murray's and Miss Johansson's incredible faces do the talking here. As a rule I don't like to interpret scenes from movies quite so
directly, but there are some moments that are just crying out to be
illustrated.

Hot Fuzz: Illustration inspired by the movie Hot Fuzz, featuring all the main characters in the style of a classic movie poster collage. Director Edgar Wright kindly send me a disc of high resolution images from the movie. Judging by his comment, I think he was very pleased with the result: "Oh my God - that's amazing!!!"

Goodbye Superman: I was a huge Superman fan when I was a child, and remember coming back from Superman III and being allowed to stay up late so I could draw my hero some more. I created this illustration upon hearing the sad news that Christopher Reeve had passed away. His brilliant performance as both Clarke Kent and Superman still sets the standard for superhero adaptations today. Thank goodness then for Bryan Singer and Brandon Routh who have ensured that the Donner/Reeve legacy lives on.
