Another Advanced Media assignment. This is the first sculpture
assignment ever given, and my first sculpture ever created. It was
actually a lot of fun, despite the fact I resented doing it at first,
only because of my senior thesis workload. It was interesting how
useful the turn around sketch became when translating 2D to 3D. I had
always seen it done for character models in animation but never
realized how much info you need to rely on until I attempted the
sculpting.
It began with an armature wire sculpture as a basic
shape, in this case a sphere. Then tinfoil was added to create the
shape of the head (as seen in the sketch) to create a surface for the
Sculpy to bond to. Then I created each feature out of Sculpy
individually. In the end I got rid of the military cap because it
covered his face. I think the fez is was cooler anyway. I really wish
that I had taken pictures of the entire process though.
