Looking Up
/ Looking Up / Final Major Project / FMP
____________________________________________________________________________
The strap line, “Ever Wondered What’s Happening In The Other 35˚” supporting the provocative title “Looking Up” of the FMP goes someway to explaining the overall nature of the work. The FMP’s focal point explores the concept of orientation and perceptions of reality, using a unique method to capture images of a real life contextual situation. The contextual situation explored is that of the London commuter through the hustle and bustle of the manic and hectic transport system at rush hour, referred to as the Rat Race. The orientation explored is a plane of vision which is always readily available at a mere tilt of the head but rarely utilized in the chosen context. The other 35˚ in this context is the usually unappreciated space outside of ones peripheral vision, when looking straight ahead. Through the imagery the concept is communicated. The objects which intrude on the images begin to build up a narrative as one progresses through the book.
