LOST BRIDGE

1209

Old London Bridge is built.

1831

New London Bridge built 30m upstream of Old.

For a moment two bridges sit side-by-side. Old London Bridge is then demolished and becomes memory.

1967

New London Bridge removed to Arizona, replaced with Current London Bridge on same axis.

Memory of Old London Bridge remains alongside.

2009

Current London Bridge is stripped down to its skeletal structure. An inhabited 'ghost bridge' is established on the site of 1209 Old London Bridge.

Boats dock temporarily, becoming the fluid body of the ghost, and plugging into its programme.

The bridge deck is inhabited by the diverse landscapes to be found along the River Thames.

Dialogue is born between the old and the new, the temporary and the (seemingly) permanent.

This was a collaborative effort between myself, Arman Bahram, Brian Tobin, James White, Donnie Duncanson and Martin Lambie - BAD:JAM

The task at hand was to re-think the idea of the inhabited bridge and more specifically, to celebrate the 800th anniversary of London Bridge.
