This first one was the first poster I made after moving to Sacramento in 2000. At the time the aesthetic here was really bad... putting your crappy Xeroxed art on colored paper was considered fancy. I went ahead and made this on my own dime outside the knowledge of the bands or the club. Diesel Fuel in Portland printed them really nicely. I was stoked.
But you'll notice the date. September The 12th, 2001. Could my luck be any worse? NObody came to the show, and I chickened out giving Watt a copy.
Ahhh well, it was a learning experience. I still have hundreds of copies of this if anyone wants one.

After losing my shirt on the pro-level poster attempt (and realizing how stupid it is to print 500 of anything for a show in Sacramento), I went out and got my own screenprinting stuff, which I used to make a series of poster for the Capitol Garage (RIP). So many good shows in such a tiny spot. This one is a two color screen that I hand registered with a one-color press, then filled in the off-reg areas with marker. I think I made about 30 on hand-cut paper, but only about a half-dozen turned out well enough to use. The posters I made this way (maybe 20 shows total: Dilute, American Analog Set, Blonde Redhead, !!!, etc.) were often stolen by fans the day after I put them up.

Fast forward a few years and I have been doing posters for Abstract Entertainment on and off for about the last two. This one for Yo La Tengo I did in about 90 minutes since I found out about the show maybe 3 days in advance. The drawing is from a sketch I did in like 1997, proving it's a good idea to hoard all your old stuff... you never know when it'll come in handy.

This poster for The Gossip happened a day late due to some confusion with the promoter so it never got used. Bummer.

This poster I'm really happy with. I used some woodcut illos by Sacto-ripper Nathan Cordero for one of the greatest bands that ever lived. Supposedly there's a copy waiting for me at the Promoter's signed by all the members! Unfortunately I got sick the night of the show and missed it.

This show got cancelled while I was working on this. I finished it anyway.

This was a personal project that eventually ended up published in the SemiPermanent06 book. But since it cost like $100 and came from Australia, I figure that means it didnt get seen all that much anyway. The words come from a Richmond Fontaine song.

Pelican is one of my favorite bands. I was so stoked to work on this and meet them that night. I'm not entirely happy with the artwork here as it feels really rushed and "trying too hard" but they liked it so maybe....

This was for a special section of the Sacramento News & Review weekly called Artists Against The War. I'm sure lots of people locally saw this, and that'd be about it! The paper also printed these as posters and sold them to benefit a veterans' charity.
