JoinDayZero.com belongs to Calvary Church of Santa Ana, CA. This is a promotional site for a youth event (DayZero) in Orange County, CA.
This project inspired me to dig back into Flash development after a five year hiatus. I drew the Phoenix, flames, and other graphics in Illustrator and brought them into Flash in layers. The phoenix rises from the flames in the animation. A crude Flash Video version of the animation is included further below, but it is better to see it in its context on the actual website.
This project inspired me to dig back into Flash development after a five year hiatus. I drew the Phoenix, flames, and other graphics in Illustrator and brought them into Flash in layers. I struggled through several drafts with the phoenix until I hit upon the idea to think of it as a tattoo. In essence, this helped focus on drawing the phoenix by utilizing the negative space.
The Flash Video above does not match the quality of the SWF running on the actual website, but I thought I'd embed it here to give you an instant taste of what the animation is like. It is really much better in its original context on JoinDayZero.com.
The above graphic represents a sample from the content panel on the web site. This changed from week to week as new bands, YouTube videos, and giveaways were promoted between events.
