"Initium (Where Dreams Begin)"
Opening show for "State of Independenz" exhibition at London College of Fashion, 8 May 2008. . Collaborating with London College of Fashion MA Costume Design students, South Asian dance company Akademi reworked their "Dreaming Now" repertoire, performed in Trafalgar Square in 2007, an elemental story of "evil vs.good".
I designed one of the traditional characters, The Yakshagana, who, together with the Stilt Walker was one of the two Evil characters. The Stilt Walker and the Yakshagana were to mirror each other in height and colour.
Celebrating the rising Chinese culture and the Beijing Olympics, an Indo-China theme was
incorporated into the designs, while keeping the Kathak dance inspired looks and also modern dance and circus elements.
