Illocution: A Motion Self-Portrait
As a motion self-portrait piece, this project was focused on tasteful and successful storytelling in an animatic style. This project called for the piece around two minutes in length that told a compelling and captivating story through a linear series of static imagery.
The concept for this piece is centered around my general clumsiness with spoken word and natural aptitude for music and it’s power as a form of creative expression. My main source of inspiration was the Hans Christian Anderson quote, “when words fail, music speaks” with a play on the concept of ‘word vomit.’
For this project, I planned and managed time and resources: acquiring equipment, scheduling talent, scheduling and planning for re-shoots, and creating a full-scale production plan to cover all bases prior to production. I sketched, concepted, storyboarded, got behind the camera, and carried out a full scale production for the final animatic. To further my creative control and contribution to the project, I decided to personally write, record, and produce the music and soundscape within the motion piece.
