IdN v16n1: The Craft Issue
Handy Graphics
Craft designers say they love being "hands-on", that the feel of real material between their fingers and the inevitable imperfections of the process make it more exciting than purely digital work. They also say that it has its drawbacks mistakes cannot be rectified with a click of the keyboard and it tends to be time-consuming! Read what they have to say about their art and view the result.

It is becoming so hard to stand out from the crowd these days simply by possessing a unique style that some studios are not even aiming at this kind of recognition. Rather, they are seeking a reputation based on their ability to handle all kinds of work, utilizing a variety of technologies and skills, to the same consistently high standard.

Like only Spider-Man can!!!
 Bradley Fulton, Shaba Games

San Francisco-based video-games developer Shaba Games has come up with one called Spider-Man: Web of Shadows faithfully based on the movie Spider-Man 3. We interview the lead character artist, Bradley Fulton, about the challenges this posed to his team and what it took to bring every scene from big screen to the world of hand-operated devices.

Means of reproducing music have gone from shellac to vinyl to tape to disc, from the cylinder to the 78rpm record to the LP to the cassette to the CD. But if current trends continue possessing music in any physical form may soon be a thing of the past. Invisible Creature and Marc Bessant whose work has been largely associated with the sounds it was designed to sell, to share their thoughts on this controversial issue with us.

The capital of France is called many things the City of Light, the City of Love... But now, thanks largely to new music and dance movements, such as "The French Touch" and Tecktonik, all that is changing. There is no Parisien movement as such, but local designers are feeling inspired and liberated and it shows in the innovative work they are producing.
