Growth

The city of Calgary in Canada has been growing at an exponential rate thanks in part to a booming oil economy. The results of this changing economy have been felt particularly hard in the industry of construction where demand has skyrocketed at a rate that the industry cannot maintain pace with.

This has resulted in vast temporal landscapes of machined land barren of topsoil punctuated by light standards, electrical poles, dead-end roads, and shells of future homes. This landscape of construction ironically exhibits a post-apocalyptic aesthetic.

This series was shot with a Holga and was exhibited as 10 x 10" silver gelatin prints at the Mooncruise Gallery in Vancouver in 2006 as part of the PLASTIC group show.

Limited edition prints are available for sale.

These are very nice. I shot a similar color series with my Diana. I am inspired to do more. Urban sprawl is a constant fascination of mine. I am interested in them all, for example; the way things are lining up in #10 really works well.
